  • Generally considered the finest and most famous example of Mughal architecture, a style that combines elements of Persian and Indian.

  • One of the seven wonders of the world. Its construction was ordered by Shan Jhan in memory of his wife, Mumtaz Mahal.

  • The complex is set in and around a large charbagh which is a formal Mughal garden divided into four parts but it was not completed according to some historians.

  • Its construction almost pushed the country into bankruptcy.

  • All together, there are surrounding buildings, a garden, base, dome, a finial--which used to be made of gold (until the early 1800's)but is now made of bronze, and four large minarets.

  • As pretty as it is outside, the inside is decorated magnificantly complete with calligraphy, abstract geometric decoration, and there are multiple rooms each with different specific purporses.
