Tambos

In the ways of the Inca , any traveler could come into safety from traveled distance in a Tambo. It is a lodge or "inn". These were constructed to help the travelers or walkers rest and supply them. Different types of tambos existed. Some serve to lodge the Incas and accompanists, which were destined for the state, officials, and those who were sheltering the chasquis.

Tambos were "way stations," they were spread about a day's walk apart, and they were used often as shelters for militaries on the move. Runners carrying messages from one place to another could stop and relay with others at the tambos. The Inca Empire probably had 10,000 tambos.
