Fought between Francoists and Republicans

Francoists supported General Francisco Franco while Republicans supported the Second Spanish Republic, which had ruled since 1931

- Francoists were supported by Italy, Germany, and the Catholic Church

- Republicans were supported by the Soviet Union and various International Volunteers

- The Fascists Francoists eventually won and took control of the government
