__Mutual Assured Destruction__

 

-theory of collective security based on the idea that if one side launces a nuclear missile that aggressor will also be hit with a nuclear bomb.

-based on the theory of deterrence which is the idea that the development of stronger weapons will threated the enemy into not attacking

-is an application of the Nash Equilibrium for all you economics people out there

term first coined by Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara

policy was never formally adapted the U.S. but it was heavily implied

- Pakistan and India are in a situation of Mutually Assured Destruction today
