Internal Combustion Engine

An internal combustion engine is an engine that has a confined space called a conbustion chamber which is were the burning of the fuel takes place. It is an exothermic reaction between an oxidizer and fuel that causes gasses of high pressure and temperature, which expand. The Expanding hot gasses work in order to create motion and therefore move the object. The opposite type of engine is the external combustion engine which uses heat from a combustion process to activate a fluid which does the work.

-Internal combustion engine: Jet Engines, Rockets and some gas turbines.

-External combustion engine: Stirling Engines, Steam engines

 1806

-Swiss engineer Francois Isaac de Rivaz built an internal combustion engine which recieved it's power from a mix of hydrogen and oxygen

 1823

 - Samual Brown was the first person to use the internal combustion engine in an industrial way. He patented it in 1823.
