Samarkan
Tara Parker
The city of Samarkan is located in between China and Europe on the Silk Road. The city was first founded in 700 B.C. and was a one point in time a city with great commerce. It was conquered by the Mongols in 1220 and sacked. Not many people survived the attack. The city took some time to regain its status that it once had. Timur the lame made the city his capital for his Turkish Empire. While in Samarkan, Timur made the city a grand trading place once again by filling it with artisans. His armies then left the city to go to Persia, India, and parts of Southern Russia.
