Quipu- a device that has a cord with knotted strings of various colors attached, it was used by the ancient Peruvians for recording events, keeping accounts and stuff lika dat. Some of the Quipu's only had a few strands while others had up to 2,000 strands. The Incas took census and kept financial records with the Quipu. Unlike the Incas, the Mesoamerican people had no system of writing.
