Week 30: World War II IDs

The "Final Solution"

The Holocaust was the persecution of 6 million Jews and other groups such as gypsies, homosexuals, Jehovah's Witnesses, and the handicapped in Europe.

The Holocaust started around 1933 when Hitler was elected chancellor to Germany and many new laws were passed to define an Aryan. The building of concentration camps also started around this time.  One of the first concentration camps to open was Dachau.  Intially the camp was not supposed to hold Jews but instead political opponents.

Jews were sent to ghettos and then to concentration camps by trains.  Once they arrived there, all their hair was shaved and they were given new clothes.  They were then sent to selection lines where they were either sent to gas chambers where they would die or they were spared their life for that time and sent to their assigned living quarters.
