Chabi was the second wife of Kubilai Khan. Not much is known about her early life. However, she was important because she was very influential on her husband’s policies. Chabi was a devout Tibetan Buddhist and encouraged her husband to talk with Buddhist monks and learn about Buddhism. She also encouraged her husband to allow the Chinese peasants to keep their farmland and not turn it into pastureland for Mongolian horses. Chabi was famous for her frugality and was also famous for a hat she invented which had a brim on it to keep the sun out of her face. She was famous for speaking her mind and being a good advisor to her husband.
From Text: She demonstrated refusal of Mongolian women to adopt restrictive social conventions of Confucian China.
This is a picture of Chabi wearing the special hat that she designed.
